Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov has put the conclusions of an investigation into a deadly bombing at Bulgaria's main airport last summer on the agenda of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on Monday (18 February). The probe points at the military wing of Hezbollah in Lebanon, an organisation which does not appear on the EU's list of terrorist organisations.

National leaders were quick to portray last week's budget summit agreement as a victory for their country. But one week after the dust has settled, the picture looks more nuanced. The European Anti-Fraud Office, OLAF, has launched an investigation into allegations that €50,000 in rural development funding was due to be paid for opening and running a Facebook page and a Twitter account in Bulgaria, EurActiv has learned.

In a widely expected U-turn, Romanian authorities yesterday (31 January) gave the American energy giant Chevron the certificates it needed to start exploring for shale gas in the eastern part of the country.
