According to a World Wild Life (WWF) report, "Insight into Europe's Forest Protection, only 1 in 15 of Europe's remaining forested areas and 1 in 2 of Europe's natural and rich forests are sufficiently protected. The report also gives a detailed overview of the state of Europe's forests.
The report reveals that only 2-3 percent of Western Europe's and 5-10 percent of Russia's European forest areas are relatively intact natural forests. According to the report, these low figures are directly attributed to Europe's growing endangered species list. The WWF report suggests that the proper implementation of the EU Habitats Directive would help save Europe's forest heritage.
