The first 19 Erasmus Mundus masters courses, involving 82 European universities, will be launched this autumn. The Masters courses selected cover a wide variety of disciplines ranging from law to mathematics. Eighty-two European universities in 17 countries are participating in the courses selected. They will welcome the first recipients of Erasmus Mundus scholarships; 140 students and 42 academics from about 80 non-EU countries all over the world who will come to study in Europe for up to two years.
“Erasmus Mundus aims to restore Europe to a leading position on the international university scene”, said Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Education and Culture, at a press conference.
Adopted at the beginning of 2004, the programme supports high-quality Masters courses and encourage exchanges between students and academics from all over the world and the EU. In total, 230 million euro will be spent on the programme between now and 2008.
Meanwhile, European Schoolnet has announced the launch of the new myEUROPE Web site ( http://myeurope.eun.org ). Available in English, French and German, this web site is designed to be a practical tool for teachers to raise children’s awareness of European issues by sharing knowledge within the teacher network. It hosts educational projects, providing features such as activity contributions, photos, practice ideas and the partner finding tool. The web site is meant to be a one-stop shop for teachers to help them co-operate with their European peers in establishing European collaborative projects, exchanging knowledge and enriching the learning of their students.
