Sir,
Regarding 'Britain gives green light to new nuclear power plants':
What a relief that the UK government has decided to get on with the urgent task of securing our national energy supplies far into the 21st century!
The daftest possible result of this debate would be to let the lights go out, and that prospect is not yet impossible if delays continue.
Britain is not even slightly like Denmark in its energy needs - the scale's the thing. We need renewables to the maximum extent possible; that probably means 20% after some decades more of trying and improving. But that still leaves 80% unfilled.
Nuclear power is ideal for baseload supply, and ours is on the increase. We already use substantial amounts of French-generated nuclear electricity at times of peak demand.
Decisions like this are not easy and gain few new friends but do make new enemies, as any democratic government knows.
I am happy to support the decision and salute the political bravery of those who have taken it on my behalf - I want to stay warm in my old age!
