Das Europäische Parlament hat zum Vorschlag für eine neue Verordnung über die Bekämpfung armutsbedingter Krankheiten in Entwicklungsländern Stellung bezogen. Es fordert mehr Finanzmittel und eine bessere Koordinierung von Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, Forschung und Gesundheitspolitik.

Am 11. November eröffneten EU-Forschungskommissar Busquin und der belgische Premierminister Guy Verhofstadt die Konferenz "Research 2002". Mit der Konferenz wird das 6. Forschungsrahmenprogramm der EU, für das 17,5 Milliarden € vorgesehen sind, eingeleitet.
