The Parliament has given its final view on the Commission communication on the future of European research. No major shift in the position of the Parliament's committee on industry, research and energy was observed during the plenary vote on 9 March 2005.
The adopted text emphasises the need to continue (existing FP6 priorities) Community support for research in the areas of life sciences, information and communication technologies (ICT) and nanotechnology, new materials and processes.
As new priorities and thematic key areas, the Parliament proposes:
- all existing and future non-CO2-emitting energy sources;
- chemistry.
The Commission will present its official proposal for Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) in April 2005.
