e-Forum Summit to discuss new EU e-government analysis

The EU's e-government-related activities are "very fragmented", says a new analysis to be unveiled at the forthcoming e-Forum Summit in Valencia, Spain.

Background:
The analysis, compiled by Antonio Alabau, Jean Monet Professor at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, says that while the EU has a broad range of e-government-related programmes and initiatives, the distribution of the relevant competencies remains fragmented within the Commission, and the EU has no direct mandate in the field of e-government development. The study, which also contrasts the EU's e-government policies with those of other supra-national organisations such as the UN or the OECD, will be highlighted and discussed at the e-Forum Summit - entitled "e-Government, Paving the Way to 2010", to be held on 15-16 September in the Spanish city of Valencia.
