Elections

The Romanian government of Prime Minister Emil Boc resigned today (6 February), following more than 20 days of protests over austerity measures and the economic downturn in the EU newcomer.

Pro-Europe politician Sauli Niinistö won Finland's presidential poll on Sunday (5 February), in an election that showed voters want to keep the country in the euro zone despite misgivings over European Union bailouts.

The Slovenian parliament confirmed Janez Janša as prime minister on 28 January, nearly two months after an inconclusive 4 December election. Janša, who is expected today (30 January) at the EU summit, is the 19th head of state or government from the centre-right EPP family among the 27 member countries.
