PRESS RELEASE Brussels, 27 July 2005
With the adoption of the new Commission Action Plan on communication, the focus will be on decentralizing EU communication. A White Paper at the end of the year will look at other measures related to how other EU Actors (media, national parliaments, civil society groups) can help to improve EU communication to its citizens. Two recent surveys have shown that EurActiv.com and its network of policy portals in Central and Eastern Europe is excellently placed to play a major role.
In that context, EurActiv.com met with its network partners on 18-19 July for discussions on further commercial and editorial cooperation within the group. They also discussed the results of their recent readership survey, profiling their collective 250,000 readers [see separate release]. Involved in this network to date are:
- three large media groups
- EurActiv.com itself in English, French and German
- Fondation EurActiv, which provides services to the partners from its Network Office in the International Press Centre, 1 Boulevard Charlemagne, Brussels

EurActiv.com is the independent portal on EU Affairs. With more than 1,4 million page views per month and over 250,000 unique visitors (CIM certified figures – April 05), the site is an important working instrument for the majority of EU Actors (institutions, industry federations, NGO’s, think tanks, the press and others) involved in defining or influencing EU policies.
EurActiv’s CrossLingual network is sponsored by Toyota and Visa Europe. General sponsors of EurActiv’s portal are: the European Commission’s eContent and IST programmes, Banca Intesa, DuPont, Honeywell, Manpower, Microsoft, Sagem, Shell and ABIG (Turkey with Europe). Section sponsors of EurActiv include: CEFIC, EDF, ExxonMobil, Gallup Europe, Kellen Europe, Nike, Pfizer, US Mission to the EU.
EurActiv also has 60 “content partners” (NGOs & think tanks) as well as ca. 500 “contributors”, providing their policy positions for free publication, up to the editorial team. Input welcome: editor@euractiv.com .
Via the CrossLingual network of policy portals, EurActiv’s content in three languages is available for syndication to “EU Actors”’ websites and intranets. Eight Central and Eastern European partners also translate and localise EurActiv news for their national audiences.
