Commission moves to cut more red tape[fr][de] 

The plans, which will be presented to EU heads of state and government at the Spring Economic Summit in March this year, are part of an overall package of measures aimed at slashing the administrative burden placed on businesses by 25% by 2012 – a move the Commission claims could give a €150 billion boost to the European economy.

New proposals would prevent member states from demanding that new branches of companies established in another EU country provide certified translations of set-up documents into another official Community language if at least one common language is practiced. They would also facilitate the market introduction of new radio and telecommunication equipment and reduce paperwork for companies placing medicines on the EU market. 

According to the Commission, a similar package of "fast-track actions" adopted a year ago has already allowed companies to cut their compliance costs by €500 million (EurActiv 25/01/07).
