Parliament to host 'Olympics of the Imagination' event

Published: Friday 20 January 2006    | Updated: Monday 23 January 2006

To celebrate the Turin Winter Olympics, works of art from European children aged between 9 and 13 will be on display for the 'Olympics of the Imagination' exhibition at the European Parliament from 23 to 27 January 2006.

The 'Olympics of the Imagination' exhibition will feature works of art by children from the Czech Republic, Italy, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and the UK. Olympics of the Imagination is an international art programme created for children aged between 9 and 13.

It is designed to promote learning about the Olympic Movement - teaching children about the goals, ideals and history of the Olympic Games, whilst exercising their imagination.

Representing Team Visa, a mentoring initiative to support young, promising athletes, will be Olympic gold medallists Sir Steve Redgrave and Sara Simeoni.

The Turin 2006 Olympics, starting in February 2006, has been combining the use of three EU voluntary environmental protection instruments as part of its efforts to be the first every truly 'green' major sports event (see EurActiv 20 January 2006).
