This joint survey by CSR Europe, Deloitte and Euronext examines the impact of social and environmental performance on investment decisions in the years to come.
Investing in Responsible Business
This survey, conducted as a collaborative project between CSR Europe, Deloitte and Euronext, confirms that socially responsible investment (SRI) seems to be on an upward trend in Europe. At the same time, the survey also reveals the existence of significant differences in the level of development and perceptions of SRI across European countries.
According to the survey, fund managers, analysts and investor relations officers recognise strong connections between the management of non-financial risks and long-term shareholder value. Responses provided by fund managers and analysts in the 2003 survey reveal a more thorough understanding of issues related to CSR and SRI as compared with answers given in 2001. The survey indicates that this demonstrates the potential for SRI to be further integrated in mainstream financial analysis and investment decisions.
The survey applauds the financial community for its valuable contribution to a better understanding of the link between sustainable development challenges and business risks & performance. It stresses, however, that further work is required to establish SRI's credentials by consistently demonstrating the value it can add to the financial community and corporates - and ultimately society at large.
