According to unofficial results, Bulgaria's former Communist party was set to win the country's municipal elections held on 26 October.

Background:
The ex-communist Bulgarian Socialist Party (PSB) garnered 32 per cent of the votes for municipal councils in the 26 October elections, according to unofficial results on 27 October. The result is seen by analysts as a mid-term warning to the centre-right government of Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg. The conservative opposition United Democratic Forces (UFD) is expected to come second with 21 per cent and Saxe-Coburg's National Simeon II Movement (MNS-II) third with 11 per cent.
