Organised on the eve of the 3rd Eastern Partnership Summit of Heads of...

SPECIAL REPORT/ A letter to the head of Russian customs from the EU's top tax official, Algirdas Šemeta, has put a last ditch and temporary stop to a costly dispute that had seen European cargo emptied at the border, the EU commissioner told EurActiv.

The European Parliament has adopted a text criticising Russia's geopolitical goals, which have put Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in a “precarious position”.

Russia yesterday (10 September) announced a ban on imports of Moldovan wines and spirits, saying they contained impurities, a move certain to be seen in the small ex-Soviet republic as retaliation for its drive to expand ties with the European Union.

Ukraine has strongly rebutted allegations that one of its little-known ports had been used for massive arms shipments to Syria. Analysts source the claims to Russia, which may be aiming to repeat the ‘Kolchuga affair’ that successfully isolated Ukraine from the West in 2002.
