An EU troika made up of EU Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas, Luxembourg Environment Minister Lucien Lux and Lord Whitty from the upcoming British EU Presidency has met with key decision-makers in Washington to discuss action on climate change after 2012 (EurActiv, 18 April 2005).
"We moved beyond discussing technological innovation," Dimas said in a statement after the two-day visit. "The results of these talks could well mark the beginning of a new phase of US-EU co-operation," including on an international climate change regime after 2012, he added.
According to the Commission, an agreement was reached to re-launch a high level group of EU and US representatives to discuss policies on combating climate change.
