Le premier rapport de suivi annuel sur la stratégie européenne pour dynamiser l'économie numérique demande aux Etats membres de faire preuve de plus d'ambition dans leurs programmes visant à exploiter les technologies de l'information et de la communication (TIC).
The i2010 strategy
, the aim of which is to foster economic growth and jobs in the information society and media industries by creating a consistent internal market framework for these services, was launched in June 2005.
The first annual review
of the strategy shows some progress but it is "not good enough" said Commissioner for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding. "ICT are today contributing less to European productivity growth than they did 10 years ago. I call on EU leaders to develop a stronger sense of urgency in their National Reform Programs and also not to shy away from cross-border competition in the telecom sector," she continued, urging the member states to invest considerably more in ICT research via, for example, pre-commercial public procurement.
The i2010 is a part of the renewed Lisbon strategy and ICT have a crucial role to play in its priorities, such as investing more in knowledge and innovation and responding to globalisation and ageing. The Commission is thus urging the member states to have more vigorous plans to modernise public services, increase and facilitate circulation of digital content and free up radio spectrum for new pan-European applications.
