Les eurodéputés fustigent la Suisse pour ses quotas sur les travailleurs et ses restrictions sur les taxis

Les eurodéputés ont demandé au gouvernement suisse de revenir sur sa décision « discriminatoire et illégale » d'imposer des contingents sur les permis de séjour à long terme délivrés aux citoyens polonais, lituaniens, lettons, estoniens, slovènes, slovaques, tchèques et hongrois (voir « Contexte »).

Le Parlement européen a approuvé une résolution hier (24 mai) pour exprimé son « grand regret » face à l’introduction en Suisse de quotas pour les travailleurs originaires des huit pays d’Europe centrale qui ont rejoint l’UE en 2004. Les eurodéputés ont également fustigé Berne pour avoir interdit aux taxis allemands et autrichiens de prendre des passagers depuis l’aéroport de Zurich.

« Je suis ravie de constater que les États membres ont respecté leurs engagements en présentant des stratégies d'intégration de la population rom dans la société. La présentation des stratégies est une étape importante », a déclaré Viviane Reding, vice-présidente de la Commission européenne.

La Commission européenne a reproché aux pays de l’UE de ne pas avoir respecté leur promesse de mettre en œuvre des stratégies nationales visant à intégrer les populations roms dans la société.

Selon les derniers chiffres publiés par l'Organisation internationale du travail (OIT), le chômage des jeunes dans l'UE et les autres pays développés a augmenté de 26,5 % de 2008 à 2011, la plus grande augmentation enregistrée dans le monde par l'OIT.

Un jeune Européen sur cinq cherche du travail et les chiffres du chômage risquent de ne pas s'améliorer avant 2016, dans la mesure où les décideurs politiques ne prennent pas suffisamment de mesures pour renverser la tendance, ont affirmé des organisations de jeunesse européennes.

Lors d'une collecte de fonds qui a ressemblé 70 personnes à Seattle, M. Obama a déclaré que les difficultés de l'Europe pouvaient affecter la croissance économique américaine, avant de mentionner les prix de l'essence comme une autre conséquence négative éventuelle.

Le président américain, Barack Obama, a déclaré jeudi (10 mai) que l’Europe était toujours dans une situation économique difficile, en partie parce qu’elle n’avait pas su prendre certaines décisions comme les Etats-Unis l’avaient fait. Il s'agissait notamment d'un programme de relance budgétaire à grande échelle et de l'action agressive de la Réserve fédérale, la banque centrale américaine.

« Avec ce scénario, le taux d'inflation de l'Allemagne pourrait à l'avenir être supérieur à la moyenne de la zone euro », peut-on lire dans une note de la Bundesbank envoyée aux députés mercredi (9 mai).

László Andor, le commissaire européen à l’emploi et aux affaires sociales, a salué hier (10 mai) la nouvelle selon laquelle l’Allemagne serait prête à supporter une inflation supérieure à l’objectif de la Banque centrale européenne et à augmenter les salaires afin d’aider les pays de la zone euro en difficulté.

Deux propositions circulent depuis quelques semaines dans les capitales du sud de l'UE et Rome serait à l'origine de ces initiatives. Elles ont fait l'objet de discussions entre le premier ministre italien, Mario Monti, et la chancelière allemande, Angela Merkel, selon des proches de M. Monti.

L'élection de François Hollande, fortement opposé aux seules politiques d'austérité, a donné un nouvel élan à ces propositions.

La Commission européenne étudie des propositions émanant de certains pays de la zone euro qui permettraient d'injecter des liquidités dans les économies en péril sans enfreindre les objectifs budgétaires renforcés.

Lors d'une conférence sur la liberté de la presse organisée au Parlement européen hier (8 mai) par l'Association of European Journalists (AEJ) à l'occasion de son 50e anniversaire, l'eurodéputée allemande de centre-droit a déclaré qu'elle ne conseillerait pas à ses petits-enfants de devenir journalistes.

Le journalisme est devenu le pire choix de carrière en raison des bas salaires, des longues heures de travail et du stress, a expliqué l'eurodéputée Doris Pack qui a plaidé en faveur de financements publics pour sauver les médias en tant que pilier de la démocratie.
