The Barroso Commission and its 'cabinets'

After the Parliament's approval, the new Barroso Commission officially took up its mandate on 22 November 2004. Here is the updated overview of commissioners, their 'cabinets' and spokespeople.

Next steps: 
  • On 26 October 2006, Commission President Barroso agreed to Bulgaria's commissioner candidate, Meglena Kuneva  and assigned her the portfolio of consumer protection.
  • Romania's commissioner-designate Leonard Orban was accepted on 30 October 2006 after Varujan Vosganian withdrew his nomination. Orban  will be responsible for the portfolio of multilingualism.
Background: 

The new Barroso Commission started on 22 november 2004, after European Parliament's disagreement over some of its members delayed its official start date.
