Some Eurosceptic politicians have launched a campaign as Germany prepares to revive the text during its upcoming EU presidency.

On 13 November 2006, the Czech Center for Economics and Politics, the US Foundation for Economic Education and the European Foundation assembled several Eurosceptic politicians and academics to debate the future of the EU.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus expressed his frustration: “The erroneous Europeanisation, the ambitions to create the supranationalist Europe, is based on unjustifiable assumptions.” He added: “To say such things is politically incorrect, because the wind in Europe these days blows in a different direction.”

UK Conservative MP Bill Cash said: “This conference is at a vital watershed for the future of Europe as Germany takes over the presidency. The conference will set the agenda for an association of democratic nation states repudiating the EU Constitution.”

The call comes just weeks before the German presidency begins on 1 January 2007.
