EU slams Dutch website for instigating intolerance
Viviane Reding, European Commission vice president responsible for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, has vigorously condemned a website launched by a xenophobic Dutch party that collects complaints against Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian nationals who cause "nuisance" to society.

Potočnik: More legislative power, but no money for environment
Compared to other policy areas, environment still remains the Cinderella of the European budget, where allocations amount to just over €2 billion compared to research which gets more than €50 billion for the FP7. Negotiations on the next EU budget 2014-2020 will be crucial, said Commissioner Janez Potočnik in an interview with EurActiv Slovakia.

Background:

Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs vowed during their two-day informal meeting in Stockholm to intensify the fight against trafficking in humans and the sexual exploitation of women and children. Justice Commissioner Vitorino said the 15 EU Member States should agree before summer 2001 on common sanctions concerning sentences between 6 and 10 years for traffickers.

The EU currently estimates some 500,000 women and girls alone enter Europe as illegal immigrants every year.
