Trade unions in the EU institutions warned they could go on strike next week, threatening to disrupt a European summit on 27-28 June if the European Commission doesn’t withdraw a proposed reform of staff regulations. Trade unions say the Commission is keeping EU officials in the dark about the latest developments in the negotiations.

Negotiators reached a provisional deal late Wednesday (19 June) to finalise the European Union's €960 billion long-term budget, amid doubts that the socialists will back the agreement in the European Parliament.

The ambitious EU-US trade and investment deal has tripped over France’s demands to exclude audiovisual works from the mandate for negotiation that EU ministers are due to sign on Friday (14 June).

Commission President José Manuel Barroso yesterday (12 June) told the European Parliament that  member states should accept some of the chamber's demands for the 2014-2020 EU budget and strike a deal “as soon as possible”.
