Governing body of the European Research Council formed

The composition of the 22 member Scientific Council of the future European Research Council has been revealed.

Committee, convened by the Commission to identify possible members of the Scientific Council of the future European Research Council (ERC) has announced the names of 17 men and 5 women, who will be the founding members of this body. 

The Scientific Council will be an independent body whose role is to determine the ERC’s scientific strategy and ensure that its operations are conducted according to the requirements of scientific excellence. The selected members will act in their personal capacity, independently of political or other interests. 

The ERC is a funding organisation for basic research proposed under the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7).
