Small Business Act Review

As Europe tries to recover from the recession, one lesson should quickly be learned: current bankruptcy laws in many countries will hamper thousands of entrepreneurs trying to get back on their feet and restart their businesses.

Women entrepreneurs got an important nod from the European Commission in its review of the Small Business Act this week, and advocates hope it signals renewed energy and funding for EU initiatives.

The European Commission today (23 February) published its long-awaited review of the Small Business Act, promising to do better to cut red tape, improve access to financing and try to harmonise tax systems among EU member countries.

Small and medium-sized companies in Eastern Europe and candidate countries will receive almost half of the money for crisis loans disbursed by the European Investment Bank, according to data released today (22 February).
