Growing market requirements for ‘green procurement’ is driving sustainability, but the success of voluntary corporate sustainability initiatives depends on the attitude and enthusiasm of businesses to live up to higher standards, says Tony Calton.

The EU's Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger welcomed the signature today (13 February) of an agreement between the governments of Italy, Albania and Greece to build the Trans-Adriatic pipeline TAP, as a possible component of the Southern gas corridor linking the EU to the resource-rich Caspian region.

EU plans to create a market for project bonds to cover the €2 trillion of investment needed to upgrade the bloc's infrastructure by the end of the decade have received a positive evaluation from credit rating agency Fitch, but are unlikely to secure a top rating.

The new East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline is expected "to strengthen Russia's position on the global raw materials market," writes Wojciech Konończuk, an analyst at the Warsaw-based Centre for Eastern Studies, in a recent paper.
