The lack of physical activity and unbalanced diets can lead to obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol levels, and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and stroke. Today, more than half of Europeans are overweight or obese.
And according to a new Eurobarometer survey on sport and physical activity, more than half of European citizens seldom do any activity. Maintaining a daily energy balance at a healthy weight, balancing the energy consumed through the diet with the energy expended through physical activity, can help prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes and CVDs.
What should be the next steps for decision makers and other stakeholders to help citizens achieve energy balance? Can small changes have a big impact on obesity? What to do first? What does science tell us?
