A positive and sound assessment. While a politician might feel that there is conflict between the evidence and popular opinion we elected politicians to make judgements and not to impose rules not supported by the evidence. I suspect the problem is lack of faith in the politicians to do this not helped by increasing polarisation. I am not convinced that there should be an intermediary organisation since politicians already fill that role. There may be a role for further explanation – and if all fails labelling to allow all parties to obtain what they seek.
