French minister tries to calm food shortage fears

While the French have been raiding food stores in recent days, Agriculture Minister Didier Guillaume assured on March 16 that “French farmers will continue to produce, our agri-food companies will be able to process agricultural products p to feed us.”

The government is trying to encourage the population not to stock up, in order to avoid supply shortages, but the queues in front of supermarkets are proof of the French people’s concern for their stomachs.

The ministry is thus ensuring that the country has enough food stocks to last until this summer.

The FNSEA, the main French agricultural union, assures that “continuing production is a priority” for farmers.

France is definitely not the country the most at risk with food shortages in the EU, but most people are not aware of the size of agriculture in the country.
