The Romanian government is thinking of combining the two agencies responsible for the management of EU agricultural funds, according to interim agriculture minister Adrian Oros.
Oros said that this proposed merging of the two agencies comes at the request of the European Commission
He added that Romania was the “only country in Europe with two agencies,” saying that he was asked by a Romanian MP about the reasons for the proposal to unite AFIR (the agency for rural investment) and APIA (the agency that handles direct payments to farmers during a Parliamentary hearing.
The designated minister said the work of the two agencies would not be affected, regardless of if they continue separately or united.
Moreover, Oros promised to improve the operations, especially of AFIR, so that all funds for rural development are quickly distributed.
