On 9 December, 2014 the European Palm Oil Alliance (EPOA) hosted a one-day interactive conference on palm oil in Brussels. The conference provided a platform for discussion of the various aspects of palm oil. Through demonstrations, debates and lively plenary sessions it offered new avenues for reflection to policy-makers, food manufacturers and key opinion leaders.
The EPOC 2014 programme reviewed the use of palm oil in food and explored its nutritional characteristics as well as its environmental and socio-economic impacts. The innovative format contained plenary sessions alternating with interactive breakouts where delegates compared the texture and taste of products with palm oil and those without and observed demonstrations to explore the technical properties of the oil.
Key stakeholders from the world of industry, academia and the EU policy environment joined the inclusive debate addressing the key topics during the plenary sessions and through a series of moderated roundtable debates, identifying hurdles to overcome in achieving objectives related to palm oil.
