Media Partnership – Cooperativism and the ESG Agenda

The ESG is a concept tailored by an initiative by the United Nations and the World Bank, in 2005, that englobes environmental, social and corporate governance into investment decision-making processes. This dialogues closely with the phenomenon of cooperativism, that holds an important bastion for sustainability across the globe. The criteria for the ESG was defined in alignment with 20 worldwide financial institutions, and it works in a mutual symbiosis with cooperatives around the world.

Nonetheless, each cooperative is born with the purpose of making the world a fairer, happier, and more balanced place with better opportunities for all, based on the premise that it is possible to combine economic and social development, productivity, and sustainability, at individual and collective levels.

In this event, the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives discussed how to make a successful story for small producers in the international market, while a representative of the country Ministry for Agriculture delivered the country efforts to enhance this phenomenon from a legislative perspective. The German Cooperation for Sustainable Development, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ, GmbH, joined the discussion adding on how synergies between supply and demand markets can contribute to this process.

Organised by: Apex-Brasil; Brazilian Cooperatives Organization; Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil; Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and Green Rio.
