Background
The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland starts on 25 January. This year's WEF meeting theme is 'Sustaining Growth and Bridging the Divides: A Framework for Our Global Future.' The title reflects the growing emphasis that the WEF's President Klaus Schwab places on the positive role its meetings play in improving the state of the world.
The post-Seattle civil society environment of suspicion of the globalisation process means that there are many who will question Mr Schwab's claim. Various civil society groups have organised a number of parallel events and demonstrations, both in Davos and elsewhere, that will attempt to publicise alternative views.
