EEB wants NGO Participation in EU Technical Committees

The European Environmental Bureau wants the EU to accept NGO participation in its technical committees.

The European Environmental Bureau wants the EU to accept NGO participation in its technical committees. According to the EBB, "during the nineties the EU has delegated considerable policy responsibilities to technical committees, thus bypassing the democratic and legislative decision-making process".

The Bureau sees the institutional setting for the preparatory work on the clean air daughter directives as a model for other technical committees. Balanced participation of environmental and industry federations experts would improve transparency and allow for a smooth decision-making process later on.
