Results of the latest Eurobarometer show that EU citizens are not really interested in the enlargement of the Union.

Results of the latest Eurobarometer show that EU citizens are not really interested in the enlargement of the Union. Less than 50% of Europeans have a positive view on European integration. In Austria, the diplomatic sanctions have led to a serious decline in support for the EU. Strangely enough, the general Euro-scepticism does not prevent 70% of EU citizens to be in favour of a European constitution.

Concerning the limited support for enlargement, Brussels is already taking necessary steps. A few months ago, the Commission decided to set up a special communication programme to inform EU citizens about the enlargement process.
