The Commission has published a call for proposals aimed at making the Internet a “safer place”.
The call seeks to allocate 11.7 million euro of EU funding to projects that promote safer use of the Internet and various new online technologies including mobile telephones and broadband content. The call will create a Europe-wide network of safer Internet awareness centres and will extend for two more years the work of hotlines enabling users to report illegal content. The EU's Safer Internet programme is particularly designed to help protect children and young people from being exploited. The programme has been running since 1999. The closing date for the proposals is 14 November 2003.
