Fischer wants federalist Europe

German foreign minister Fischer has expressed his personal federalist views on the future of the EU

German foreign minister Fischer on Friday expressed his personal views on the future of the EU. During a speech at the Berlin Humboldt university, Fischer called for the creation of a full European federation with a directly elected president, a commission with real governmental powers and a two-chamber parliament. According to the Green minister, France and Germany will have to be the motor of this federalist Europe.

Several political commentators in the UK already very negatively to Fischer's proposals. Since a few months, a new discussion has started on the future of the EU. Several elder EU statesmen have expressed their views of the way ahead.
