Sharp rise of Euro-zone inflation

Eurostat released new inflation figures pointing to a rise in consumer prices of 2.4 per cent, up 0.5 percentage points on the previous month.

Eurostat released new inflation figures pointing to a rise in consumer prices of 2.4 per cent, up 0.5 percentage points on the previous month. These figures are considerably above the 2% inflation target of the European Central Bank (ECB) and might trigger a rate raise in the next month.

A spokesperson of European Commission blamed high oil prices for the surge in inflation.
