The article above discusses the falling support for the eu and I would suggest that inventing a system to appoint the commission president that violates the treaties, lying to the people of europe that spitzenkandidaten was real after the election had happened while only 5% of eu voterss had heard of it can only alienate the remaining voters. The fact that the inventors of the system are the same people to whom it gives power and it/Juncker led to the uk leaving I wonder how bad ‘not well’ would be?

The EP wouldnt have accepted anyone else than the candidate of the strongest group, so in this case it was Juncker..so with the exceptions of UK and Hungary – who voted against Juncker – this process worked quite well so far..

If the eu wants public support perhaps it could start by stopping the lies about spitzenkandidaten. Juncker was selected by the eu council by qmv and then approved by the eu parliament. Exactly the same process as Barrusso. The difference is that Juncker then stood in the eu parliament and blatantly lied to the 500m people of the eu and claimed to be the first elected president with his own mandate. This directly led to the uk leaving. The political core of the eu seems determined to obtain maximum power for itself while democracy is an obstacle to manage and subvert. Trans national lists are another good example

At least voter participation is set to rise as a percentage. The uk was below average so its removal will help the numbers. Like for like will be more interesting.
