ATHENS – Government insists on closed type camps for migrants and refugees

The government is determined to proceed with its decision for the construction of closed hosting facilities for refugees and migrants, Alternate Migration Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos told EURACTIV’s media partner AMNA’s radio station on Wednesday (19 February).

“This is to the benefit of the islands inhabitants”, he commented, since people in the Aegean Islands strongly oppose the construction of new facilities.

Notis Mitarakis and Giorgos Koumoutsakos, who lead the country’s migration and asylum ministry, are heading to Berlin today (20 February) to meet with Germany Interior Minister Horst Seehofer to discuss the new European Pact on Immigration and Asylum, as well as ways to deal with the migration crisis.
