BERLIN – No additional funding for the European Green Deal

It did not take long for the German government to react to European Commission President von der Leyen’s call for member states to provide additional financing to the EU budget for the European Green Deal.

Yesterday afternoon (14 January), Germany’s finance ministry rejected the idea of contributing more funding to the EU budget for the Green Deal in a response to a written question from Green MP Franziska Brantner.

The ministry stated that the current budget is sufficient to meet the climate goals and also dismissed the idea of increasing the capital limit on the European Investment Bank, another prong of von der Leyen’s strategy to fund Europe’s Green Deal. (Sarah Lawton | EURACTIV.de
