Slovakia’s National Criminal Agency arrested 13 high-profile judges, including a former deputy minister of justice, in an operation called “Storm”. Charges of corruption, interference with the independence of courts and obstruction of justice were brought.
All of them had links with Marián Kočner, accused of ordering the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée.
A communication retrieved from Kočner´s mobile phone showed how he managed to bribe and influence judges on various occasions, also in the case of forged promissory notes worth €70 million.
For the judges to be prosecuted, the approval of the Constitutional Court needs to be granted. (Zuzana Gabrižová | EURACTIV.sk)
