Romanian social-democrats are protesting against a potential change in the electoral law to allow two-round votes in the election of mayors.
PSD, which recently lost power following a no-confidence vote against its government, are saying the plans of the centre-right government to change the laws a few months before the elections goes against a decision of the country’s Constitutional Court and a recommendation of the Venice Commission.
The social-democrats said they would send a letter on the matter to European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament’s chief David Sassoli and the Party of European Socialists.
Romania is due to hold local elections in May. (EURACTIV.ro)
