Ireland has issued a temporary closure on all schools, colleges and childcare facilities in the country. Speaking in Washington, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said that indoor events of more than 100 people would be cancelled and outdoor events with more than 500 should be shelved.
Working from home is encouraged while socialising should be limited, official advice said.
“We have not witnessed a pandemic of this nature in living memory,” Varadkar said on Thursday. “Together we can slow the virus in its tracks and push it back.”
“Acting together, as one nation, we can save many lives.”
Meanwhile, as of Thursday evening, 27 new cases have been confirmed in Ireland, according to the Department of Health. (Samuel Stolton | EURACTIV.com)
