Lithuania pushes for EU fund to help victims in Belarus

Lithuania’s government is hoping to establish national and EU initiatives to help the victims of the Belarusian regime, Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius told Baltic News Service on Monday.

Linkevičius said EU ministers had already approved his initiative to establish a fund to help the victims of the Lukashenko regime, which will receive €2.4 million from the European Commission.

Lithuania, together with Estonia and Latvia, has also imposed national sanctions against the Belarusian regime for vote-rigging during the presidential elections of 9 August and the subsequent crackdown on protesters. (Benas Gerdžiūnas |
