LONDON – Blank cheque for the NHS to contend with the Coronavirus

Boris Johnson’s government has promised a blank cheque for the NHS to contend with the Coronavirus when it publishes its first post-Brexit Budget plan on Wednesday (11 March).

On Sunday (8 March), Chancellor RIchi Sunak vowed that the health service would get “whatever resources it needs” after the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in the UK rose to 273.

The Budget plan had initially been seen as a chance for Johnson to unveil a series of multi-billion pound infrastructure projects across the UK, primarily in the Midlands and north of England which returned Conservative seats, many of them for the first time in generations, at December’s general election.
