LONDON – Capital moving close to lockdown

The UK government is moving towards imposing further restrictions on movement in London, which has become the epicentre of the country’s recent spike in coronavirus cases.

On Wednesday (18 March), the Cabinet Office wrote to other government departments requesting their recommendations on stricter measures for the capital, in a “shielding plan for London”, where 953 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 – nearly a third of the 2,626 UK total.

Meanwhile, Transport for London has now closed 40 stations on the London Underground, with Mayor Sadiq Khan telling Londoners that “people should not be travelling, by any means, unless they really, really have to.” (Benjamin Fox, EURACTIV)
