MADRID – Coronavirus cases have more than doubled

In Spain, coronavirus cases have more than doubled in the Madrid autonomous community (Comunidad de Madrid) in the last 24 hours, and across Spain confirmed cases of contagion also rose to a total of 1,204 and 24 deaths on Monday (9 March), EURACTIV’s partner EFE reported.

Spain’s socialist PM Pedro Sánchez convened an urgent meeting of the Monitoring Committee on Monday to evaluate the current state of the coronavirus situation and decide if current measures are sufficient to contain and prevent future cases in the Iberian country.

While Sánchez said the government will shortly put in place extra prevention measures, he only asked the population to stay calm and follow the recommendations of the health ministry without elaborating further.

EFE’s Fernando Heller reports.
