MADRID – ‘EU fiscal pact does not correspond to Spain’s reality’

Spanish vice-president for Economy, Nadia Calviño, said in an interview with La Vanguardia that the EU’s Stability and Growth Pact “does not correspond to the economic reality” of the country and that some of its methodological aspects are “questionable.” Calviño has long criticised the EU’s fiscal pact.

The vice-president said Spain is committed to “reduce the public deficit and debt as quickly as possible,” as requested by the EU executive, “without jeopardising economic growth and job creation.”

The Commission recently urged Spain to present a draft budget for 2020, following the recent constitution of the new coalition government after last November elections. (Beatriz Rios | EURACTIV.com)
