Modernisation of a section of the Belgrade-Bar railway

A contract was signed yesterday (21 September) at Serbia’s construction, transport and infrastructure ministry, to produce the design and technical documentation for the reconstruction and modernisation of a section of the Belgrade-Bar railway, from Valjevo to the Montenegrin border.

The signing was attended by Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic, Russian Ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, as well as the first deputy general manager of the Russian Railways, Sergey Pavlov.

Pavlov said that the design of the railway section his company was due to complete next year was “a complex task, but our company will be up to the task of the Serbian government,” adding that construction is slated to begin in 2022.

Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko pointed out that the joint projects carried out by the Russian railways in Serbia “are part of the infrastructure development of Serbia and an inalienable part of the development of South East Europe,” which is all “under the auspices” of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
