PARIS – 5G debate is heating up

With regulator Arcep due to decide by the end of February which operators are the candidates for the new generation of 5G telecommunications, the debate on whether Huawei’s equipment should be used to deploy 5G is starting to become lively.

The Chinese embassy in Paris issued a statement warning against “discriminatory measures” being taken against Huawei, after the French EU Commissioner for Trade and Industry, Thierry Breton, took a fairly clear stance on the subject.

While Operators prefer to be able to freely choose their equipment manufacturers, especially since some of them already have equipment from the Chinese group, citizens seem most concerned about the environmental consequences of this new technology. (EURACTIV.FR)
