Embassies of France, Germany, Italy, the UK and the US in Kosovo issued a statement explaining that they will not engage as mediators in talks between election winner Vetevendosje (VV) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) on forming a new government.
The two parties earlier agreed to ask Quint to facilitate a joint meeting as part of efforts to reach a deal on co-governance on Tuesday (28 January).
But VV thinks that LDK is asking too much, as LDK had previously confirmed that it wants to have the position of Speaker, President of the Republic and five ministries. Albin Kurti, the Vetevendosje leader, obtained the mandate to form a government.
“We will not engage in mediation. We encourage all political actors in Kosovo to focus on the aspirations of the people of Kosovo,” Quint announced. (Željko Trkanjec | EURACTIV.hr)
